M3 Cams???

this may be a dumb question...but what are cams

cams is short for camshaft. that is the part that operates the valves. changing the camshaft changes valve operation with the goal of longer opening times. the result is more fuel getting and exhaust getting out of the combustion chamber. that result furthermore is more power.

I own a 96 328is also, and i was wondering about the cams. All i fhave done to my car so far is added a cold air intake. If i was going to buy the m3 cams, what else would i need to gain 20+ hp?? in other words, what else do i need to install the cams?
