525i: 2.5 liter, 184hp, I6 engine.
530i: 3.0 liter, 225hp, I6 engine.
540i: 4.4 liter, 290hp, V8 engine.

Get the 540i, the V8 is beautiful and well-suited the 5-series' size.

I don't know about 1995 but e39 530 has a V6. Or maybe I'm wrong, I was just looking at 530's and every ad said a V6, on the other hand some ads for 330's say V6.

BTW what's the difference between a 323 and a 325, I know this is not the right place to ask but I feel kinda wierd starting a new thread to just ask one question as simple as that. I know both a them have a 2.5 liter I6, so what are the difference? Thanks in advance.

95 530i

The 1995 530i has a V8 - same engine as the 540 with shorter stroke. This engine has the infamous nikasil issue (as does the 540), where a certain number of them developed pitting on the cylinder walls caused by sulpher in gasoline. The effect is rough idle. BMW offered replacement engines made with Alusil. If the car spent it's life in a state with low sulpher gas, like Ca, it probably won't have a problem. But, if you can get a car with an Alusil engine, it is better for peace of mind.

I have a 1995 530i 5-sp (with a nikasil engine) and I love the car. Good balance, nice looking, not too expensive.

Thanks, but I thought I saw somewhere that 323's engine is 2.5 liters just like 325, I guess I was misinformed. Thanks again.
