I just bought a 03 325i with Bi-Xenons..when I first turn them on they have that bright white/purplish color, however after about 15 seconds or so, they become a bright yellowish color.

I had a 02 325i loaner car that had the xenons as well, those had the bright white/purplish color all the time.

My question is, do the xenons have a break in period where they will adapt to that white/purplish color, or is there a difference in the bulbs themselves.

Also would having the bi-xenons compared to the xenons have anything to do with that

Anyone else with a brand new 03' experience this with your xenons, please help!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

my friend told me once. it's so many hundreds of hours before it gets fully broken in. it shouldn't ever get truly blue/purple b/c it's not a 6000K bulb, but they yellow does go away after it's broken in. I think the proper color is white w/ just a hint of blue. The bixenon vs. xenon shouldn't really matter colorwise.

Bi-xenons are indeed more yellow, even greenish. This is due to the dual function of the lens. BMW changed something to make them look different from the single Xenons.

We have compared with my friend's M3 as well as other Bi-Xenon and Single-Xenon cars and the Bi's were always more yellow/green.

it looks yelowish from up close but when you are driving (or when standing from the distance), other cars will see hard white.

Xenons are famous for looking much more effective from the distance. Have your friend drive your car towards you from some distance, and see how the truelly look to another driver.

However, if you want the real X5 look, upgrade to 6000K for $100.

I thought BMW HID have a special charger for it to be so bright. I have a 03 330CI and my Xenon when I first turn on it really white and after while not as white but still white though.

Actually quote an opposite. BMW has a thing called "stabilizer" that adjusts the beam based on the car's weight distribution. This, in turn, makes the car seem like its headlights are not as bright.

What you might be confusing is the Ballast that sits right under the headlight. Every HID/Xenon system has that and it basically shoots up voltage to around 25,000V for coupple of ms to spark the bulb... but it takes less electricity to keep it burning compared to non-Xenon bulbs.

All BMW Xenons are whiter at first... and they go lever colder when their temperature becomes stabilizes.

You should never judge your real Xenon true color from the first 10 seconds or so... wait 30 seconds and that is the color of your H.I.D.s.

All the BMWs with pure white Xenons have lights just like you (unless they are purple like 7s,X5),... they just seem less yellow from the distance.

If you want to make them whiter/bluesh, you have to upgrade.

Thanks Pushakov...

Any idea as to whether the 02' 325 had the 6000k compared to the 03' 325's. Because I drove a 02' 325i where the color was that bright white, and it never changed color even after reaching its full intensity.

Thats why I was wondering if after they got broken in it would display the same color.

No. Stock 3-series all have 4300K so they should have same color. With age it probably becomes little dimmer... but thats beyond me.
